Prescribing Information:
- Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
- Theoretical evidence suggests a possible additive effect when Withania somnifera is used concurrently with barbiturates, benzodiazepines or thyroid medications.
- Glycyrrhiza glabra may increase the metabolism of warfarin and decrease its effect.
- Many of the adverse effects attributed to G. glabra are due to glycyrrhetinic acid at doses above 100-400mg daily. However those with hypertension, heart problems, kidney problems or using oral contraceptives may be more sensitive.
- G. glabra may cause hypertension and hypokalaemia. Avoid using in hypertensive patients or in patients for whom hypokalaemia is a major risk (e.g. use of digoxin or diuretics).
- There are no known drug interactions with Relora; however, Magnolia officinalis bark extract may theoretically potentiate the central depressant effects of other agents that have sedative properties such as alcohol, barbiturates, benzodiazepines and other central nervous system (CNS) depressants.
- There is preliminary evidence that berberine, a constituent of Phellodendron amurense, may inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes; however, this interaction is yet to be reported in humans.
- There is insufficient research to recommend the use of Relora in children.
