Prescribing Information:
- RestoraCalm is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation due to the berberine content of Phellodendron amurense.
- There are no known drug interactions with RestoraCalm; however, Magnolia officinalis bark extract may theoretically potentiate the central depressant effects of other agents that have sedative properties such as alcohol, barbiturates, benzodiazepines and other central nervous system (CNS) depressants.
- There is preliminary evidence that berberine, a constituent of Phellodendron amurense, may inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes; however, this interaction is yet to be reported in humans.
- Skullcap could theoretically potentiate the effects of CNS depressants; concomitant usage is not recommended.
- Skullcap inhibits the CYP3A4 enzyme, so caution must be taken for patients taking drugs metabolized by this pathway.
- Concomitant use of passionflower with alcohol or pharmaceutical sedatives may have an additive effect.
